User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Returned twice
I gave up after trying two of these.

The first computer would boot out of standby about 25% of the time. After pushing the power button to resume, all the lights would come on, but the screen would never come back on. I updated the BIOS and other drivers to no avail. The only way to get the computer to boot up was to remove the battery for at least 10 minutes. After that it would boot up fine and perform as expected with the exception of the battery indicator which would ALWAYS say 43% charged.

So I returned the first for an exchange.

When turning on the second 1101HA only one third of the screen would be visible (the left third). The other two thirds of the screen would be blank. Very strange issue. I have never heard of such a thing.

I am returning the second for a refund. It is obvious that ASUS has some issues/quality control to work through on this model.

4 Stars Slightly bigger, slightly slower than it’s Asus 1000 cousins – but still pretty cool
The Asus eee 1101 is Asus’s first foray into the “bridge” gap between 10″ netbooks and 12″ laptops, and has a fair number of strengths and a few weaknesses.

A few differences between this and the ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook – 10.5 Hour Battery Life:

* The 1101HA has a slightly slower processor (1.33 Ghz) versus 1.66 Ghz. You’re able to overclock it to make up for that performance loss, however.

* The LCD on the 1101HA is is 720p (1366×768), but anything running at 720p will most likely overtax the CPU and make it a poor viewing experience. Even playing Quicktime mp4 (720p) with a 5mbps bit rate had frame dropping.

* Awesome battery life. Laptop Magazine reported nearly 9 hours of battery life on their torture test but it hit 7.5 hours in my test of WiFi + movie playing.

The main competition is the Acer Aspire One AO751h-1893 11.6-Inch Black Netbook – 8 Hour Battery Life, which has a slightly smaller pricetag to match the slightly less battery runtime. But it also includes Vista, a bigger hard drive and more memory. So, on the dawn of Windows 7’s release date, having Vista would make the upgrade process to Windows 7 slightly easier. Even though I’ve had mixed experience with the Acer brand, it represents a better value than the 1101HA.

The problem that if you were to shop for a netbook today, you’re almost innundated with choices. There are too many to choose from, and there’s not one that stands out from the rest. The Asus 1101HA is an great netbook, but it doesn’t make the decision easier to choose between this and the Acer A0751h.

4 Stars Great netbook with terrible speakers and touchpad buttons
When my wife wanted suggestions about what new laptop to purchase, I suggested this netbook. I recommended it because it had an SVGA+ display (1366 x 768 pixels) and amazingly long battery life. The screen and battery have not disappointed us.

However, we have noticed three major difficiencies in this netbook.

First, the speakers are just terrible. There is no bass whatsoever, and the midrange is pretty nonexistent as well. Frankly, I cannot bear to listen to music played on this netbook. I have gone into the Realtek equalizer and cranked the bass and dropped the high-end frequencies. It still sounds awful.

Second, the touchpad buttons are a rocker, not separate buttons. This means that you must press on the outside edges of the rocker in order to click. Which means your thumb has to travel a long way to switch between right and left clicks. I find this a real hassle. I have to move my whole hand to switch between buttons. This is lousy from an ergonomic standpoint.

Third, I did not know when I recommended this netbook to my wife that the CPU is designed to only recognize up to 1GB of RAM! I had planned to add another 1GB in order to improve performance and multitasking ability.

I currently own a different ASUS netbook myself — a 1000HE ASUS Eee PC 1000HE 10.1-Inch Black Netbook – 9.5 Hour Battery Life. I love it, except for its limited screen resolution (1024×600). Its speakers are vastly superior to those in the 1101HA. Music sounds great on the 1000HE. Also, the Atom N280 CPU in the 1000HE sees the 2GB of RAM I put in the machine.

I have one last complaint that applies to both the 1000HE and the 1101HA. It is that both these netbooks have wireless cards built in that only support the 2.4 GHz ISM band. This band is also used by microwave ovens, cordless phones and bluetooth. This means that the range and speed of the wireless connection is often degraded by interference. Newer 802.11n cards support the 5 GHz ISM band. Some cards even support combining the bandwidth in both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. I am planning to have my next laptop/netbook support the 5 GHz band.

Aside from these complaints, both the ASUS 1000HE and 1101HA are great netbooks!

I hope this helps you select the best purchase for you.

5 Stars A great little machine!
I just purchased this laptop and everyone in the family LOVES it……….only one problem and I am hoping someone can help. I also purchased the External Slim Asus DVD reader/burner. Downloaded the software that came with it, but the computer informs me that I do not have a DVD decoder ????

What to do next? Is there a problem with the laptop?? HELP if you can.

5 Stars Great little unit
Everything is as advertised. Fast shipping, secure packaging, no problems. Works great, and runs an external optic drive with ease. Great for travel!

3 Stars Not that excited
I have to give it 3 stars because their technical support sucks. The netbook came with Internet explorer 7 which is not allowing me to download any file from the net or install my files which is the main reason I bought this since I already own a MAC for other purposes. It is not letting me upgrade to IE 8 or even download mozilla or opera or any program at all. I called their support and was told there was nothing they could do but to call microsoft. I have called microsoft and was asked to pay $59 to fix the problem which I have refused to pay because I just cashed out $$$ to get this and I think it is too soon to start paying for techincal support.

I have just packed it up because I can’t stand Internet Explorer with their pop-ups and such.

I hope to fix this problem soon or return it for my money back.

Overall, it looks good, but I am salty right now to appreciate it like I should.

PS: I would appreciate any help with this problem. Whenever I try to download a file, it tells me that the file was blocked because the website did not have digital signature or just file corruption.

The LED-backlit widescreen (16:9 ratio) display is large enough to easily view multiple windows and reduces the need to scroll to view Internet sites. An integrated Acer Crystal Eye webcam delivers smooth video streaming and high quality images for online chats and business video conferences, even in low-light situations.

It also includes a Multi-Gesture Touchpad that enables you to pinch, flick and swirl your fingers across the touchpad for more natural photo and video viewing as well as intuitive navigation of websites. The Multi-Gesture Touchpad allows you to scroll, zoom in and out and flip through web pages, photos, spreadsheets and more. The full-size Acer FineTip keyboard has flat, broad keys for enhanced typing comfort, and the AO751h features a soft-touch palm rest to increase typing comfort.

3 Stars Buzzy
I ended up ordering two Acer’s. The first one had a terrible buzzing when plugged into the adapter. I returned it for a new one–it had the same problem. When unhooked from adapter it was quiet as a mouse. Overall size was great as was the battery life. Didn’t really care for the sensitive touch pad, though. All in all, not a good experience.

5 Stars Great Computer
If you are like me that does not like a bulky piece of equipment to carry arround, you will low this acer because it has a very fast processor, the size of the screen is just right and the keyboard is not too small that you can’t fit your fingers.

Also has blue tooth witch allows you to connect a mouse and not use up a usb port, because you might need it for a external dvd drive.

To conclude next time I buy a laptop, my business is Acer’s guaranteed.

3 Stars Please with wXP
Thank you guys, I also almost bought it, but will now wait a week or two in the hope to find it coming with windows XP.

ACER: beautifull toy, but you are loosing business if you don’t offer it with wXP instead od that junk of wVISTA.

Guys have a look at Samsung NC10, nice and neat for 333$

1 Star Such High Hopes
I had such high hopes. This computer fails (90%of the time)to connect to any wireless connection even when in the same room as the modem. If it does connect (remaining 10% of the time) the computer takes at least five minutes (seriouisly) to connect to the web page. Then it takes a long time for web pages to display. I have used this computer in several different locations and always get the same result. This computer has Windows Vista and the Acer information lists this model as eligible for the free up grade to Windows 7, but once requested information is entered into the site to get the upgrade, the site says the model is not eligible. The computer has been powered on less than 10 times since purchased (36 days ago), and EACH time after Turn Off Computer there have been upgrades to be downloaded, three times ago it was 8, two times ago it was 12, and today 18. I just wanted to turn off the computer to leave and had to wait for the upgrades; taking up to 30 minutes to install then to initialize! I am attempting to return this product for a full refund. I am very, very disappointed. One good thing: the battery did last a very long time.

5 Stars Great little package!
I don’t what people are complaining about – I love my new Acer Aspire One! It’s the perfect size, the screen is bright and easy to read. I don’t have any problems with my wireless connection whatsoever. My only ‘adjustment’ has been with the home and end keys, and maybe the flat keyboard keys themselves, but then again, it’s just an adjustment. I find it just as fast, if not faster, than my home computer. Maybe people complain because they’ve got lightening fast computers and therefore this one is slow in comparison? The only upgrade I’ve purchased is a compact mouse and I love the thumb/finger action to instantly resize a page, very cool. I also purchased a laptop table so I can easily work with the mouse. The battery life has been awesome, lasting me most of the day, plus it only takes a short time to recharge to full power once plugged in. Overall, I love it!!

3 Stars Medium performance (from venezuela)
I bought these netbook just primarily for its screen size and thinking that 2 gb ram memory and and new processor will boost it in a decent way but just after installing offices (it’s ridicules i have to install the whole standard office just to use the outlook) I started to see the medium performance, specially if you are browsing the net, editing small excel file and getting/sending emails from outlook. Maybe you guys are thinking hey dude go a get a laptop… but what the he… What can I expect from a $390 netbook. Battery lives looks fine so far.

5 Stars Great Deal, makes life so much easier
Though I have yet to get 10.5 hrs of battery life, this computer really lives up to its high ratings and great reviews. I have not had one problem with it and it works awesome. I did not buy the additional memory but recommend it-when I have powerpoint and word open at the same time the program begins to jog when I type. Yes, it is a fingerprint magnet, but it is soo light, portable, versatile and convenient.

Best of luck!

It syncs files, photos and videos easily with your primary notebook or desktop PC whenever connected to the same network with the integrated Syncables app. After initial Syncables setup, the file updates will occur in the background for a truly seamless experience.
5 Stars Amazing and portable
I’ve had this netbook for over a month now and I can not get enough of it. For its size and price it is the best deal on a computer, period. The 160GB hard drive is more than enough to store all my music, videos, and pictures. I was scared that the 1GB ram wouldn’t be enough, but it was sufficient. The HP Mini doesn’t lag to open applications. And best of all, its one of the very few computers still carrying Windows XP (Vista Sucks!). And finally, the battery life is what it says. The HP Mini lasted me an entire work day (obviously with the volume muted )

I would recommend the HP Mini to ANYONE.

4 Stars Well worth it
I just purchased the HP 1151 NR netbook from Verizon for [...] with a discount of a [...] mail in rebate. It came with Verizon’s broadband software already installed. They also had the 6 cell battery to purchase as an accessory, it comes with the 3 cell battery. The 6 cell battery does attach to the bottom of the netbook like the 3 cell, but it protrudes and therefore makes the netbook sit at an angle. It does not impede the opening of the screen or make the typing angle noticably different ergonomically. I love this netbook. It has large size keys like a laptop in many of the similar areas on a keyboard. It has a right and left mouse pad buttons, but they are on either side of the mousepad. I prefer them closer together. I will be buying a wireless mouse so I do not have to use the intregal mouse pad, since every web page you view needs to be scrolled down. The unit is light weight and very portable. I primarily bought it to stay connected while traveling for pleasure. I hate not having access to web sites during travel, but do not want to be loaded down by a laptop, or print out everything I wanted to see and do on vacation. It has a sd card slot, 2 usb ports (one on either side), a head phone/micrphone jack, another jack that I do not know what it is. Surprisingly, it did not come with information on how long to charge the battery. For the price and portability I’d buy it again.

3 Stars bad power button
It does exactly what any other 1.6ghz 1gb mem 160gb hd does.

I am returning mine, because the POWER button is terrible… it gets stuck on the left, when I can make it move.

The right button (for wifi) works fine when I push it, but still really uncomfortable.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Picky Points
Mine arrived fast, in good shape, ~ 18 Sep 09. Really like it so far, but haven’t wrung it out yet … primarily due to my shallow level of experience with PCs.

Ordered an external drive, too. It came the next day. Is about as generic a drive as you will ever see. Instructions are a small (5×7?) size card, folded into 4 “pages.” Mixed Japanese characters, and very poor English. NO, NONE, ZERO, 0, Nada, identification of manufacturer. But, it seems to work.

Primary complaint with the netbook is its function keys. The keys in general are white lettering on black surface. No problem there. BUT the function icons of the function keys are tiny, and printed in blue, located in the upper left corner of each key; and of course they are dual-function (groan) instead of dedicated keys like on a desktop. Back when I was tech writing for a living, we would have called it “4 point eyestrain agate,” but I think these are 2 point, not 4. Of course it may be that I am an old geezer, and wear trifocals. Whatever their size, they are just too darn small!

Battery really seems pretty potent. Have not run a timed test, but it is lasting way longer than I expected. I plan on using the unit in car on long trips … when I am doing any navigating when spouse is driving. Would like to plug it in to car’s 12 Volt power source, (aka Cigarette Lighter Socket) but hate to plug in a male 12VDC->110VAC converter, then a male 110V cord plug which feeds a power block (unlabeled) that feeds another cord which feeds the N120. If anyone knows of a 12VDC plug that can feed direct to the N120 I would appreciate hearing of it, and how it worked for you. Or somebody.

I’ll revise, hopefully improve, this when I finally get the N120 on the web … here at home via a Verizon connection, or in a motel/hotel/etc.

5 Stars Lightweight and very long battery life
I travel internationally a lot for conferences and I grew tired of lugging around my full size laptop. Furthermore, I am a keen photographer and sometimes shoot in excess of 10 gb of photos a day. To accommodate all of the photos, I needed some means of storing my photos while travelling and a netbook seemed ideal. I did a bit of research before deciding on the Samsung N120-12GBK and I am really happy with the choice.

The major pros about the N120 are its light weight, the small size, the large keyboard and the long battery life. The battery life especially has really surprised me. I am actually writing this review while sitting in the economy class seats of a 747-400 and the portability, the keyboard and the battery life make the N120 ideal for business travel. I have also been very pleased with the way the N120 runs Lightroom, especially after I opted to upgrade the RAM to 2gB. The display is bright and I am pleased with the appearance. I would never do serious photo editing on the N120 due to the small size of the screen and the system requirements of Photoshop, for example, but for the purpose of storing and sorting photos the N120 has worked well for me.

I was also pleased when I received the N120 to find that it was not inundated with trial software as my Dell laptop was when I received it. I had originally planned to wipe the hard drive of the N120 and to rebuild it using the system DVD supplied by Samsung, but this was not necessary.

My only gripe about the N120 is the mouse buttons. One of the selling points for me about the N120 was that the mouse pad is large compared to other Samsung models. However, the mouse button is actually only one button and you need to press either on the left or the right size to generate left or right mouse clicks. I would have preferred two buttons because I am always trying to press in the middle, but that is just my opinion.

Overall, I am very pleased with the N120. Everyone who has seen it or tried my N120 has been impressed. I would not hesitate to recommend the N120 if you are looking for a netbook, especially one with phenomenal battery life.

4 Stars Excellent performance, light, long lasting battery
I satisfied the performance, light weight, and long lasting battery.

I bought this netbook as a secondary labtop to use when I go out.

I don’t neet to bring the charging set, cause this netbook lasting enough to use.

One thing that I think unconvienience is keypad, because the function key at bottom left and window key at bottom right should be placed oppositly.

5 Stars Perfect for my needs
I wanted a computer that was light, user friendly and quickly accessed the internet. I could not have asked for a better fit. I am most impressed with the battery life, keyboard and . It is true that it lasts 8.5 hours. Additionally, I love the sleek look and feel of this computer (as do many who express envy when looking my netbook). Couldn’t be happier

4 Stars ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-VU1X-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook – 8.5 Hour Battery
I like it. I like the low weight and long battery life.

The small screen is not optimum for writing long papers or dealing with large spreadsheets. It works well as a second machine.

I like how it quickly finds and connects with wireless laptops. My other larger laptop seems to take forever to connect.

5 Stars So convenient!
Just bought this from Amazon a month ago and I LOVE IT! It has everything I was looking for:

Compact and lightweight

Built-in webcam + microphone

Long battery life (I don’t have to drag the power cord around with me all day.)

Built-in wireless card

Plenty of memory

Built-in SD card reader

3 (!) USB ports

Ethernet port

Super sleek and stylish, too!

To me, it was an easy decision after a bit of research. This is the best for the price. The screen is plenty bright, and the battery still lasts 6-8 hrs. The keyboard is *slightly* smaller than a standard size one, and I adapted to it quickly. I really like the touchpad and the zoom function. The *only* minor annoyance is that its glossy finish gets smudged easily. I keep a lens-cloth in the case to shine it up. Problem solved. I was happy to buy it here–free shipping and no sales tax! It shipped quickly and arrived a few days before the estimated delivery date. If you decide this is the one for you, I hope you’ll be as happy as I am with this netbook.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Great Netbook
My wife loves this computer. It has great battery life and boots up very quickly. Our only complaints are that it’s very easy to accidentally zoom in and out and the touch pad mouse is very sensitive and we accidntally click on links. It does everything you’s expect it to do and it does it well. I strongly recommend a netbook with the 6 cell battery. It has almost 6 hours of battery life.

4 Stars Solid Samsung
After using this netbook for one month I have to say I am pleased with it,nicely built with good battery life, which is about 5 hrs,I opted for the extra 1 gb of ram for a total of 2gb which is max for this netbook,a highly recommended option.

5 Stars Only 2 cons but they’re maddening
5 stars with 2 “maddening” cons-but even with the cons its superb. Its a netbook, remember that. So the volume isn’t great and the touchpad minute. Those things can be addressed-external speakers, wireless mouse etc. also there’s no garbage on the computer the way many new computers arrive with, its very rugged-I’m rough on computers, this is the best in that department, the delete button is way up in the right corner which isn’t great but again its a netbook.

All in all Samsung is delivering the goods-its hdtv’s are superior and this is the equivalent. Its not that far off from my once main machine-a sony, no a toshiba, no a dell-I’ve spent almost $2,000 for a laptop and all told I’d take this machine over all those others I’ve owned. I have used this lap for many hours, dropped it twice and it still makes coffee-or seems to-and everything else. The value is there; forget all the nonsense about which computer can do…

this is no flimsy machine, it works great.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Expectations Fully Met
I purchased the Asus netbook based on recommendations from a colleague who had purchased one & several publications that touted it as the best on the market. All of these recommendations have proven to be spot-on! In the month since I took delivery of it, the product has fully met my expectations. It’s easy to use; the keyboard is of sufficient size; and the battery life has lived up to its claims. A definite 5-star purchase!

5 Stars Good netbook
I had used ASUS EeePC 4G with MS-windowXP for almost 16 months before I purchased this 1000HE. Now, Windows7 (RC) is running on this 1000HE with 2GB RAM. I really like the display, HDD capacity, battery life, and a keyboard. Since I had read other people’s reviews, I have no trouble or finger prints becaue of leather cover which I bought with 1000HE. This is a really good notebook with Windows7.

5 Stars Finest laptop/netbook I’ve ever used!
There are already several hundred reviews that have been written about this netbook, so I don’t need to say too much. But let me just say that I’ve been absolutely delighted with it during the few months that I’ve owned it.

The battery life is every bit as good as the manufacturer claims. You’ll easily hit around 9 hours, just so long as you don’t have anything plugged into it (i.e. when I have my broadband card hooked up, it will reduce the battery life down to something like 7 hours).

You will, of course, need to get an external DVD/CD drive, but I haven’t found that that has been a big drawback.

I would recommend picking up a 2 gig RAM card. I did that right when I ordered it. It brings the performance in line with at least the last Dell laptop that I had (and without the endless headaches of owning a Dell!).

The compact keyboard may be awkward for some, but I don’t think that it makes a big difference at all. Some of Asus’ “Seashell” netbooks have larger keyboards/screen, but the drawback to the slightly larger size is a reduced battery life. For my purposes, this one works out just perfectly.

I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up another EEE PC in the future.
