User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Picky Points
Mine arrived fast, in good shape, ~ 18 Sep 09. Really like it so far, but haven’t wrung it out yet … primarily due to my shallow level of experience with PCs.

Ordered an external drive, too. It came the next day. Is about as generic a drive as you will ever see. Instructions are a small (5×7?) size card, folded into 4 “pages.” Mixed Japanese characters, and very poor English. NO, NONE, ZERO, 0, Nada, identification of manufacturer. But, it seems to work.

Primary complaint with the netbook is its function keys. The keys in general are white lettering on black surface. No problem there. BUT the function icons of the function keys are tiny, and printed in blue, located in the upper left corner of each key; and of course they are dual-function (groan) instead of dedicated keys like on a desktop. Back when I was tech writing for a living, we would have called it “4 point eyestrain agate,” but I think these are 2 point, not 4. Of course it may be that I am an old geezer, and wear trifocals. Whatever their size, they are just too darn small!

Battery really seems pretty potent. Have not run a timed test, but it is lasting way longer than I expected. I plan on using the unit in car on long trips … when I am doing any navigating when spouse is driving. Would like to plug it in to car’s 12 Volt power source, (aka Cigarette Lighter Socket) but hate to plug in a male 12VDC->110VAC converter, then a male 110V cord plug which feeds a power block (unlabeled) that feeds another cord which feeds the N120. If anyone knows of a 12VDC plug that can feed direct to the N120 I would appreciate hearing of it, and how it worked for you. Or somebody.

I’ll revise, hopefully improve, this when I finally get the N120 on the web … here at home via a Verizon connection, or in a motel/hotel/etc.

5 Stars Lightweight and very long battery life
I travel internationally a lot for conferences and I grew tired of lugging around my full size laptop. Furthermore, I am a keen photographer and sometimes shoot in excess of 10 gb of photos a day. To accommodate all of the photos, I needed some means of storing my photos while travelling and a netbook seemed ideal. I did a bit of research before deciding on the Samsung N120-12GBK and I am really happy with the choice.

The major pros about the N120 are its light weight, the small size, the large keyboard and the long battery life. The battery life especially has really surprised me. I am actually writing this review while sitting in the economy class seats of a 747-400 and the portability, the keyboard and the battery life make the N120 ideal for business travel. I have also been very pleased with the way the N120 runs Lightroom, especially after I opted to upgrade the RAM to 2gB. The display is bright and I am pleased with the appearance. I would never do serious photo editing on the N120 due to the small size of the screen and the system requirements of Photoshop, for example, but for the purpose of storing and sorting photos the N120 has worked well for me.

I was also pleased when I received the N120 to find that it was not inundated with trial software as my Dell laptop was when I received it. I had originally planned to wipe the hard drive of the N120 and to rebuild it using the system DVD supplied by Samsung, but this was not necessary.

My only gripe about the N120 is the mouse buttons. One of the selling points for me about the N120 was that the mouse pad is large compared to other Samsung models. However, the mouse button is actually only one button and you need to press either on the left or the right size to generate left or right mouse clicks. I would have preferred two buttons because I am always trying to press in the middle, but that is just my opinion.

Overall, I am very pleased with the N120. Everyone who has seen it or tried my N120 has been impressed. I would not hesitate to recommend the N120 if you are looking for a netbook, especially one with phenomenal battery life.

4 Stars Excellent performance, light, long lasting battery
I satisfied the performance, light weight, and long lasting battery.

I bought this netbook as a secondary labtop to use when I go out.

I don’t neet to bring the charging set, cause this netbook lasting enough to use.

One thing that I think unconvienience is keypad, because the function key at bottom left and window key at bottom right should be placed oppositly.

So, I can control the brightness of screen and volume with one hand.

also Home and End button.
